I strongly believe that it’s important to make your beloved ones thoughtful and original gifts. Holidays are essential to remind your family and friends that even if you don’t always spend enough time with them because of work and various reasons, you still care about them. Never be shy to express your feeling to your beloved through a gift, a love letter, a post card or a day spent together. That’s what I teach my children to do.
Last month it was my husband’s Birthday. The children and I started our preparations in advance because we wanted everything to be perfect. I didn’t know what Lilly and Jack were up to, they kept everything in secret. Later I knew that they had been saving lunch money all year and invited us for dinner to Derek’s favorite restaurant! I thought it was very cute.
Derek and I have been together for nine years. I certainly think that I know him very well. For his Birthday, I wanted to give him something really special.
He likes art and nice home-made food. He’s also a good rider, we own two horses which he takes care about. We also travel regularly taking children to see places of our youth and big cities like London and Edinburgh.
I don’t know much about horses, so I’ve decided to buy for him an original modern painting that could become part of his art collection and also decorate our living room.
The obvious choice for me were Leonid Afremov’s works. I love his paintings, in particular his famous series dedicated to horses: those paintings are absolutely amazing! Here https://afremov.com/HORSE-RACE-PALETTE-KNIFE-Oil-Painting-On-Canvas-By-Leonid-Afremov-Size-30-X40.html
He is a contemporary artist who uses a very colorful rich palette in his works and dedicates them to different topics:
- Traveling, different cities, beautiful sceneries, sunset paintings
- Love, kisses, couples on a date
- Dancing, music, passion
- Horses and races
- Portraits of famous people etc.
At the beginning, I was torn between Horse race and Dark horse. Then I saw a painting of a night sea regatta, which reminded me of our trip to Heanley-on-Thames some years ago. It seems to me a nice reminder of those good old times, and I knew he would appreciate it as well.
Moreover, our flat is done in colors so that picture would look really nice in it.
In the long run, I’ve choses a painting of the race. It seemed to me more dynamic and full of movement.
